The Ecomuseum of Montreal is the closest thing to a zoo the city has to offer. In the middle of nature, featuring swamps and wooded areas, over 30 different types of animals are on exhibit. The animals are all native to Canada, most of them can be found here in the St. Lawrence Valley. An indoor nocturnal section (”From Light to Dark”) exhibit is also available for those who find turtles, snakes, fish, birds and the like interesting.
Inside the center there is a cafeteria, and although no food is for sale other than a vending machine with snacks and drinks, it’s a good place for a picnic with the kids after a good morning observing the wildlife. Speaking of children, they do offer to host birthday parties there. And there are summer camps available for them to learn about taking care of and interacting with the animals. Other places to see animals in the city are the Biodome, Angrignon Farm, and Cap St-Jacques Ecological Farm.
