Starting this year (winter 2007-2008), Montreal eases car owner’s lives during snow removal. Free overnight parking is offered in specific locations between 6pm and 7am when the town is working hard to get rid of all the white stuff. In all, that’s about 2500 places in 25 different parking lots that are available!
During the snow removal period, the city usually works on one side of the street (the cars have to be out and the orange snow removal signs can be seen – see image) and consequently the number of places is then pretty much divided by 2. During that time, which can last 4 to 5 days depending on the intensity of the snowfall, parking and getting around can be a big pain for all Montreal drivers. The free parking offer of the town will certainly really help car owners who were used to dreading snow storms but also will facilitate the process of removing the snow in a quick effective manner. Let’s hope this measure is here to stay…
The website Stationnement de Montréal can be consulted to get more details on the snow removal free overnight parking. A map is available showing parking spots and number of places for each one of them.
